Medical Economics Analyst

Job Description
The Medical Economics Analyst supports local market network teams on implementation and administration of Value Based Contracting (VBC) agreements.

Fundamental Components
As a Medical Economics Analyst, you will support local market network teams on implementation and administration of Value Based Contracting (VBC) agreements. The Medical Economics Analyst is essential for ensuring proactive tracking and facilitating of meeting VBC agreement incentive payment commitments throughout the contract life cycle. The Medical Economics Analyst position is responsible for working with data manipulation and reporting as needed to support increasingly complex requirements to support these deals.
 
As part of the Medical Economics Team, you will take ownership of your portfolio of markets and deals, working collaboratively with negotiators and Network managers as well as Medical Economics VBC partners to ensure we meet our contractual commitments, administer incentive payments and assist in pre-deal evaluation and make recommendations.  The broader Medical Economics Team is accountable for analysis of medical costs across lines of business, supporting data for the right pricing and to develop Medical cost savings initiatives.  We partner with a wide range of business units across the enterprise.
 
Additional Responsibilities of the Medical Economics Analyst:

• Work both independently and collaboratively with business units across the company to support provider specific Value Based Contracting including project managing implementation and payment support of signed agreements.
• Participate in local market network discussions as VBC implementation subject matter expert.
• Meeting tight deadlines within the context of potentially changing priorities, working both independently and facilitating cross-functional solutions.
• Communicate with internal Aetna and external provider constituents.
• Work with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and understand relational database concepts.

Background Experience
Required Skills for the Medical Economics Analyst:

• 2+ years of experience in a professional environment
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and basic Microsoft Office suite 

Preferred Skills for the Medical Economics Analyst:

• Experience working with Aetna’s Data Warehouse, (ex: SAS, Crystal, SQL, Visual Basic) and prior pay for performance experience a plus including basic modeling and data manipulation.
• Medical Economics, Informatics, or Finance experience
• Experience with Microsoft Access
• Experience within the healthcare industry, healthcare data, common healthcare terminology and medical cost issues & strategies
• Experience working in the insurance industry

 
Education:

• High School Diploma or GED Required
• Bachelor’s in finance, Economics, Computer Science or another related field preferred
