Job Description
The Staff Pharmacist delivers, and leads others to deliver, exceptional service to our
customers
• Offers and provides clinical services, such as health screenings and the administration of
immunizations*
▪ * Effective 8/1/2020, immunizing is an essential function of the job for all
pharmacists, no exceptions
• Establishes trust and confidence with customers and patients by ensuring the technician
support staff is maintaining service standards according to company guidelines
▪ This includes diagnosing the root cause of service opportunities and implementing
corrective actions with the technician support staff when necessary
• Immediately acknowledges and greets customers in a courteous and professional manner
and coaches the technician support staff to do the same

• Helps to minimize healthcare costs by assisting customers that are affected by changes in
programs, legislation, and Third Party insurance
• Actively meets and exceeds customer needs by driving compliance and adoption of all
pharmacy workflow standards
▪ Including ensuring the appropriate schedule is implemented to best serve the needs
of the customer and business in accordance with budgeted payroll hours and
workflow model
• Partners with front store management to drive and develop solutions to enhance the
customer experience
• Assists pharmacy and front store customers with their questions and concerns
• Takes accountability for customer and patient satisfaction and persists to resolve the
person’s unique problems until a solution is found
• Helps patients and customers on their path to better health by providing counseling when
appropriate
• Solicits information about a customer’s medical history to give appropriate medical advice
• Maintains high quality assurance standards by leveraging the appropriate systems and tools
during final verification, Drug Utilization Review (DUR), dispensing incident notification and
report completion
• Communicates and collaborates with all healthcare professionals to provide coordinated and
optimal patient care
Professional Practice
• Keeps our communities safe by ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws, rules and
regulations and CVS policy and procedures at all times
▪ Includes exercising corresponding responsibility and professional judgment in the
filling of all controlled substances
• Keeps our colleagues safe by enforcing a safe work environment that fulfills the required
regulatory and company policies and procedures and holds colleagues accountable for
maintaining such an environment
• Maintains through the team a clean, organized and professional pharmacy department,
according to CVS standards
• Communicates with customers/patients while protecting their confidential health and drug
information according to HIPAA
• Participates in all required aspects of the prescription filling and pick-up process and use of
pharmacy computer system including, but not limited to, operating the cash register, data
entry of prescription orders, and resolving Third Party issues. Retrieves and files prescriptions
appropriately according to State and Federal Law
• Communicates with Field Management and Corporate regarding any required reporting
including, but not limited to, regulatory agency visits and maintains confidentiality thereof
• Actively prevents diversion and theft by complying with all Asset Protection procedures.
Properly secures the pharmacy department, safe, and pharmacy department access

Personnel Management
• Ensures the technician support staff is positioned to help patients on their path to better
health providing timely and ongoing feedback, both appreciative and developmental
• To best serve our customers and meet our financial goals, communicates performance
expectations and results to the technician support staff. Organizes information and important
correspondence in a way that can be easily understood and accessed by the technician
support staff
• Formulates clear objectives, relays pertinent information to technician support staff and holds
them accountable for meeting objectives
• To establish a broad base of highly skilled team members capable of delivering on our
company purpose, the Staff Pharmacist is responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Manager in
driving training and development of the technician support staff
• Keeping our company values in mind, supports the Pharmacy Manager with interviewing,
evaluating, identifying and selecting the best talent with a range of diverse backgrounds and
experiences
• Completes all required training and compliance programs and helps drive technician support
staff members to do the same
• Balances assignments that capitalize on people's strengths with stretch opportunities to
enable maximum development in and across the organization
• Acts as a trusted coach and mentor both within their line of responsibility and beyond
• Clearly and regularly communicates performance and behavior expectations to technician
support staff including, but not limited to, maintaining a work environment free from unlawful
discrimination and harassment
Operations Management
• Understands all aspects of the pharmacy, supports the Pharmacy Manager in assessing
ongoing operations, and develops and executes plans to improve pharmacy performance
• Supports the Pharmacy Manager in reviewing business performance on a monthly cadence
and supports corrective measures aimed at driving improved results
• Provides the technician support staff on-going feedback and direction on progress towards
achieving these goals
• Protects the community and drives patient outcomes through the maintenance of daily and
weekly reports and leverages information contained in the reports to assess pharmacy
performance and then uses that information to support Pharmacy Manager in managing
technician support staff to drive better results
• Stays abreast of organizational changes and key information by participating in all required
store operational meetings and cascades communication to the Pharmacy Staff
• Builds profitable business and script growth through recommended clinical and patient care
programs
• Maintains momentum by continually recognizing and celebrating short-term wins and shared
successes
• Ensures customers have the medication therapy they need, when they need it by maintaining
a strong in-stock position accomplished by ensuring all daily, weekly and monthly inventory
management policies and procedures are followed

• Ensures pharmacy technician support staff are properly trained and capable of performing
inventory functions
• Utilizes appropriate report(s) to maintain replenishment and provide feedback to team on
inventory results
• Maintains a perpetual schedule II inventory and reconciles appropriately
• Responds to alarm calls when necessary
• Must have sufficient availability to work the hours scheduled
• Helps provide coverage when needed, during time of illness, vacations or due to business
needs

Required Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications: • Active Pharmacy License in the state in which you are employed • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties List • Immunization Certification through an accredited organization (i.e. APhA)* • Free of pending felony charges or convictions for criminal offenses involving controlled substances

• Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand

• Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
• Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
• Stooping to a considerable degree and requiring full use of the lower extremities and back
muscles
• Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; those activities where detailed or
important spoken instructions must be conveyed accurately
• Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and
having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication
• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: transcribing,
viewing a computer terminal, reading, visual inspection involving small parts
• Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs
• Exerting up to 30 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a
negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. degree
